I just finished reading the same article. Yes it was disgusting and the subjects came off as little more than smug, self-righteous, simple buffoons--but that's all they are, at least the ones who were interviewed for this article. I don't think it's representative of the Republican youth, but rather the zealous fringe that attends said conventions.
I was a little disappointed that the author got so caught up re-enforcing partisan stereotypes. Granted, I get a slight thrill from parading the same stereotypes, but I know that it's an underestimation and that's a dangerous thing.
