Dad got out of the hospital today at 3PM. So all is good there.
The Cinnamon-Apple-Raisin turned out quite well, thanks for asking.
Politics: Paul Vallas officially announced his candidacy for Governor today. He realizes he faces an uphill battle, both for recognition and fundraising, but has no doubts he can achieve it. In reading the Tribune's account of his announcement (available at http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-010730.story?coll=chi%2Dnews%2Dhed), a couple of things jumped out at me. Unsurprisingly, he wants to make education a priority. But he's against public money for stadiums, against the new design for Soldier Field, and against rights to Soldier Field. He's being a bit waffly on the issue of O'Hare relief-he seems to want to have things both ways, expansion at O'Hare and a new airport at Peotone. My question is this: is he "Democratic" enough to pick up the nomination? And if he is, can he avoid the "liberal" tag long enough to be elected? He does seem to be spending a lot of money .
