  Quite possibly the best song I've heard in the past five years. See for yourself.
  
  
• Stay With Me--The Faces
  
  I only picked up on this one because it plays over the closing of Wedding Crashers, but I'm glad I did. There's a school of thought that says Rod Stewart has the greatest voice in rock; I'm not completely sure I concur, but this is a hell of an argument in its favor (plus the opening guitar riff will kick you in your tender bits).
  
  
• Like Eating Glass--Bloc Party
  
  Trendy as hell. Don't care. The drum part on this will stay with you like a social disease.
  
  
• Let Go--Frou Frou
  
  Found it on the Garden State soundtrack (along with The Shins' "Caring is Creepy" and "New Slang", among others). Find the album version if you can; it's bassier.
  
  
• Since U Been Gone--Kelly Clarkson
  
  Just gonna admit to the shame and move on.
  
  
• The Passenger--Iggy Pop
  
  This one crawled inside my head when I heard it in the trailer for Nicolas Cage's upcoming The Weather Man. It's been vacationing there ever since.
  
  
• Favela On Blast--Duplo
  
  Don't ask me how I found it, it would take too long to explain. Half an hour of unspeakably sexy hip-hop/Afro-Latin Portuguese-language ass-shaking.
  
  
• There's No Night Out In the Jail--Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
  
  The liner notes, from the Nick & the Seeds' odds-and-sods collection, say this was "recorded for a compilation of Australian country music cover versions that was never released, 1993". OK. I just have to say that it's really really weird to hear a Nick Cave song wherein Nick seems to be...happy.
  
  
• Two Words--Kanye West featuring Mos Def, Freeway, and the Harlem Boys Choir
  
  I've been chewing on Kanye West's "The College Dropout" for almost nine months now; it's just insanely insanely good. This song is the one that I've been gravitating toward recently; luckily, Kanye's new one arrives at the end of the month, and I can't wait.
  
  
• Bittersweet Eve--Belasana
  
  Found this one on a compliation called "Maybe This Christmas Tree". I don't know who Belasana are, though I'd rather like to; in any case, the hook is enough to make it worth playing even in August.

Honorable mention to the entirety of Petra Haden's "Petra Haden Sings The Who Sell Out".

Rod the Mod

Rod's voice seems to freak a lot of people out (not to mention the smarm factor - spillshercoffee and boldmoves, am I right?) - but the stuff he did from '68 to '72 solo, with the Faces and with the Jeff Beck Group is almost uniformly good.

I keep meaning to ask if you know the Dresden Dolls at all. A friend put Missed Her on a cd she sent me, and I thought of you when I heard it. I don't know anything else by them, but this one song is fucking HOTTT! You should check it out.
