Some improvement: he's putting together two and sometimes three words at a time. He had a CT scan done yesterday, but the results are as yet unknown.

Still, fingers crossed.

I asked my folks about this over the holiday, because they knew something on the subject from my grandfather's stroke. They said that it definitely takes a few days to get back to "normal" mentally after even a minor stroke, so it sounds like your dad's symptoms are pretty normal right now. Unless they find something else, he should continue to improve and get his speech back fully.
