Short today. And dull.

Today's factoid (born of sitting for ten hours staring at an area code map): there are, as of this writing, still 14 states that have only one area code. I leave it to you to guess which they are.

Spoke to a bunch of people today-they were, on the whole, less rude than yesterday-including one woman who I'd really like to tell you about because the conversation was so intense, but can't because of the confidentiality constraints put on me by the company. All I can say is that after what she survived several years ago, the events of last Tuesday, while shattering, are far from the worst thing she's ever been through.

Random thoughts: Life: It's a weird place. And so few of us get to go out the way we came in: naked and screaming.

Today's Link Of The Day is the inimitable Dr. Hunter S. Thompson's column at ESPN.com. Dr. Thompson, man of American letters, isÂ…well, he may be the closest thing I've ever experienced to drugs. There's no one who writes like he does, and it's terrific to have weekly words from him available. The column is nominally about sports, usually involving HST's passion for gambling, but this week he's writing on last week's events. Go see it, then read the archives. http://espn.go.com/page2/s/thompson/
