Today was boringish. I went to work, I went over to a friend's and had some fun there, I came home.

Political analysis: So, it is to be Jim "Cancer Boy" Ryan vs. Rod "The Serbian Sensation" Blagojevich. I can't say I'm surprised with Cancer Boy's coronation as candidate (and, for readers outside of Illinois and those in Illinois who haven't been paying attention, Cancer Boy was diagnosed with lymphoma a few years ago, and he has, to date, survived. My esteem for the man is so low I refuse to refer to him in any other way. My esteem for him is so low because it is my honest belief that he belongs in prison, owing to actions during his time as DuPage County State's Attorney); Blagojevich's victory feels like a mild upset, even though it shouldn't. I think Cancer Boy is eminently beatable; so far as I can tell, his main reason for running for governor is that he seems to believe it's his turn. To paraphrase Paul Riddell, "the legitimate reason for running, the urge to lead, is as alien to him as menstrual cramps". It should be a very interesting eight months indeed.

In the other race of real note…I voted for John Schmidt for the Attorney General nomination. I would have preferred to see John Schmidt win the Democratic nomination. But…I'm happy that Lisa Madigan won, if only to prevent Joe Birkett's ascension to the office. In his own way, Birkett's just as bad as Cancer Boy.

Today's Link Of The Day is a small pleasant delight. It's worth the wait to download over a modem connection. http://hotwired.lycos.com/animation/kids/nina_paley/fetch/
