So, instant Oscar analysis:

YAY: There Will Be Blood, Paul Thomas Anderson (as director), Paul Thomas Anderson (as writer), Daniel Day-Lewis, Michael Clayton, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Juno, Diablo Cody, Ellen Page, Ratatouille, Brad Bird, Michael Giacchino, Viggo Mortensen, Laura Linney, Casey Affleck, Ruby Dee, Amy Ryan, Dario Marianelli, No End In Sight.

BOO: Actually, very little. There wasn't one big prominent movie I hated (you know, like Babel, last year). That said, I need to see No Country For Old Men again. It didn't have a lot of impact for me; I don't know if that's because I read the book, or just because there's no there there.

WHERE'S: American Gangster, Ridley Scott, Russell Crowe, Tim Burton, Ben Foster, Josh Brolin (for anything, really), Ratatouille for Best Picture, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.

HA HA HA: No nomination for Angelina Jolie.

WHO'D'A THUNK IT: Cate Blanchett, for Elizabeth: The Golden Age? I love Cate Blanchett, and I really liked the first Elizabeth, but the critical reception on this one was enough to keep me away. Tommy Lee Jones, for In the Valley of Elah. The same number of nominations for Norbit as for I'm Not There.

HMMM...: Three of the five Best Original Screenplay nominees are women.

DAMMIT, I THOUGHT I WAS DONE WITH 2007: Anybody got The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Away From Her or La Vie en Rose screeners they can lend me?
