Today was unremarkable.

Up at 9:30 to take Dad to church-the church was installing a new associate pastor and he wanted to be there. The new guy is about 2 years older than I, but looks even younger (and I look young for my age). This was followed by a potluck lunch…all in all, it was three hours that can best be described as "Protestant".

The rest of the day was uneventful. Read the newspaper, started the crossword puzzle, watched part of the Cubs win.

A couple of people complimented me on what happened last night. I'm not sure if I oversold the events, or there's been some kind of change in me…in the end, it doesn't matter, because I doubt I'll ever see anyone I met last night ever again. But at the same time…I doubt I could have talked like that to a stranger in the past. Maybe I am changing a little.

One quick note: at the end of each month, I will be zipping the previous entries into a single file. If you would like to receive this file as an e-mail attachment, let me know.

Today's Link Of The Day is the Chicago Reader's Hot Type column. Hot Type is an excellent look at events in Chicago, especially as relates to the media. This week it features a writeup on the recent seismic shakeup at the Chicago Teachers' Union. Perhaps Paul Vallas is not the golden boy he was once considered. (Of course, maybe Deborah Lynch-Walsh is just the reincarnation of Jacqueline Vaughan.) (1)

(1) The late Ms. Vaughan was the president of the CTU during the wonderfully fractious 1980s.
