Accessed my money. Bought comics. No hostages for a while.

Had to cut writing this short last night-thunderstorms were causing trouble.

Saw "The Anniversary Party", by Alan Cumming and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It was fairly impressive. Cumming and Leigh wrote and star in the film, about, well, the anniversary party of two Hollywood-types. Cumming plays Joe, a novelist who's about to direct his first film, Leigh is Sally, an actress who may be losing her battle with time. Everyone from their business managers, to their (perceived) evil neighbors to the young starlet starring in Joe's movie is at the party, and, unsurprisingly, truths come out when 16 tabs of Ecstasy are introduced. What is surprising are the truths that come out-a little infidelity, unhappiness with career direction, etc. Cumming and Leigh also did an interesting job with casting-the young starlet whom Sally hates and envies for her youth is played by Gwyneth Paltrow, who is probably now getting parts Leigh used to be up for. Joe and Sally's actor-couple-friends are played by real-life husband and wife Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates, who also bring along their own children to play their children. Cates's character has an interesting revelation of her own-she was a successful actress who put her career on hold to have and raise the kids, while her husband kept working. Cates herself put her career on hold to have and raise children, so the viewer is left wondering how much of what we see isÂ…directly inspired, shall we say. There's a lot of Woody Allen here, which is never a bad thing, in my opinion, but enough of Cumming and Leigh to make it their own. And it has John C. Reilly in it, which is always good.

I had a point I wanted to discuss, but it can keep until tonight.
