Apparently I'm "pithy, provocative, and current". OK

Mowed the lawn. Deposited some money. Looking for a Pennsylvania Ave. Monopoly piece from McDonald's.

Saw "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", directed by Hironobu Sakaguchi. Visually stunning-long shots look especially realistic-but the story made NO DAMN SENSE! But it's definitely worth seeing-I'm not as easily impressed by visuals as some, and I was blown away.

This is as good a time as any to remind you about the contest that's running through the end of the year: guess how many movies I see in 2001, win an as-yet-undetermined prize. Send entries to: johnsmoviepool@aol.com

So, the Sun-Times is reporting Paul Vallas will be entering the race for governor. I'm not sure if this is the best move, strategically. Vallas should, I think, look for the best candidate to run under as a Lieutenant Governor. Vallas is too much of an insider at this point-let him get elected as part of a strong ticket first (which would be his first elective office), then, presuming he can launch statewide some of the programs he instituted to help Chicago's schools, he'll be in a very good place for future runnings.

Today's Link Of The Day is Ellroy.com. James Ellroy is the author of "American Tabloid" (which I've been raving about since I started this and am now on the cusp of finishing) and "L.A. Confidential", among others. No one tears the face off innocence, both personal and societal, like him. The site is not officially-sanctioned, but it's the best out there for information. http://www.ellroy.com

You are! Makes for great reading. I think you've missing your calling...at least so far.
