This is an open invitation to all disgruntled, disheartened Cubs fans:

There is more than enough room on the Yankees bandwagon for you. Cheer lustily as the mighty Yankees pound the hated Florida Marlins in the World Series!

The Yankees: We're Like Jesus. Even Though You Hate Us, We're Still Ready To Welcome You.

My plan was to just no longer care about this particular post-season.

It's this very sort of smugness that make people hate the Yankees. I dearly hope the Marlins beat the tar out of them. Sorry, buddy.

Who's being smug? I'm speaking with real sincerity (which is, we must admit, something of an anomaly for me). Consider it as an "Enemy of my enemy" thing: you'd rather have the Marlins, the team that broke your heart and denied the dreams of the Cubs you hold so dear, succeed than see them laid low and beaten like the sonsofwhores they are? I honestly don't see a reason for any kind of enmity against the Yankees in this case.

Here's the thing--I'd rather the Marlins, a team that even as they beat the hell out of us seemed to be having a great time playing the game, beat the Yankees, who play with such a single-minded drive and sense of entitlement as to appear workmanlike.

"We're the Yankees, therefore we win."

I enjoy watching that taken down a peg.

And for what it's worth, the Cubs broke my heart, not the Marlins. The Marlins had generally played well throughout the postseason, I never underestimated their ability to win this thing. But I overestimated the ability of the Cubs to overcome that.

It's not "We're the Yankees, therefore we win", though. It's "We're a baseball team, one plays these games to win them, therefore we commit everything to winning". Anything else is just failure. It's binary, one/zero, winner or loser.

Heh. Maybe that's what makes the Yankees the perfect team for those of us with Borderline Disorder (http://www.bpdcentral.com/resources/basics/indicators.shtml).
