I've just been browsing LJs of people from Downers Grove... I looked at 3 or 4 I had little or nothing in common with until I stumbled upon yours. I believe we both list Douglas Coupland, Ben Folds, and Cameron Crowe as interests. All of which are mondo cool. I had to buy a 2nd copy of Coupland's Life After God because the pages started falling out of the original. All Families are Psychotic was a fun read too though.
