Mar. 22nd, 2004 12:48 pmOK, here's another question for you to ponder. Given an ideal living situation (i.e., you're able to provide support, etc.) would you rather
A) raise, single-parent, a natural child of your own, bred with someone else

or
B) raise, single-parent, an exact clone of yourself?

I expect this one to go about 95% in one direction and 5% in the other, but I'm very interested to see who's in that 5%...with me. The way I look at it, it's another chance to get me right, and I sure as hell think I'd benefit from one.

And since he's due to resent me anyway once he hits teenage years...
I guess I'll go with Option A, if only to keep the resentment to a bare minimum.

Date: 2004-03-22 11:46 am (UTC)I would rather not be a single parent, frankly. It's just really hard. But I'd rather be raising someone new than a clone. I think there'd be some weird sense of puppeteering going on or something. You'd actively be trying to present experiences opposite to the ones you had...and the results would be fascinating (I once thought it'd be a good idea for a movie), but ultimately, I think it'd be bizarre and creepy. Also, I don't think I'd really look at the kid as a person, but as a clone...so not really "human"...which sort of ups the, "What can I do to fuck with you?" factor (sort of like when I bought a Furbee). And I just get this sense that people would either begin to snuff out their clones as they got older or the clones would kill them--remember that Governator movie?
So I guess I'll opt for single parenting of an actual offspring.

So I'd take the "bred with someone else option" if for no other reason than coitus is required.
Now, for a fun side-winder, wouldn't it be amusing if you could produce a clone by auto-eroticism?
Think how many Hobies there would be.
Best,
C

The rise of the Internet and a population explosion would have gone hand-in-hand (so to speak).
