Time for "What The Hell Are Boundries?"

I can't get sex.

Consequentially, I pretty much hate sex.

By extension, I pretty much hate anyone that I know is having sex.

Which is probably high on the list of reasons I might be surly with you even if you're a friend of mine.

There. I'm glad I've said that out loud. Reading this (the whole site's pretty much work-unsafe) struck a chord or two, on a low, somewhat nonspecific level.

Now, then. Back to staring at the wall.

Perhaps you are just trying to use a phrase you see as clever, or perhaps you really do think about sex as a commodity (i.e. something you can "get" or not "get"). I advise against this. It makes some women react with distaste. True, sometimes sex IS a commodity, like a party favour, or a purchase, or something someone you don't really know loses and you find, but do you want that?

Okay, okay, but it's more the sort of thing that shallow people enjoy, because you don't have to get to know someone or care about them. It's just advanced wanking. That doesn't sound like the person you'd like to be.

Mostly, the good kind of sex isn't a thing. It shows up as naturally and as beautifully and as surprisingly as sunrise, when you've met enough people and talked enough talk and know and are known. And when it does, you won't be thinking, "Yeah! I got sex!"

I hope.

At the risk of sounding like a jackass...

I think it's safe to say that while most guys probably, deep down, prefer that it be all beautiful and natural and stuff, most of us would settle for the advanced wanking for immediate gratification purposes. True, we would either have to accept the shallowness of the act and appreciate it for the physical pleasure alone OR we would have to go into denial and try to separate the two components, but if the three options are none, shallow, or real, any step up the ladder feels like a good one at the time.

I'd go you one further and say that there's nothing "shallow" about even casual sex. Everyone wants it, we know everyone wants it, and we still insist that we need to ascribe some deeper meaning to it when it happens.
