I remember receiving a gift from you to make up for how horrible my birthday was made by someone else. It was the sweetest gesture, something I appreciated so much.

(I now have the superparanoid sense that I have this memory wrong, so I'm going to post a second one to make up for that possibility.)

I met you on-line back in the Fall of 2000, in the good old days of Nerve. You had an incredibly funny profile that I responded to and, shortly thereafter ended up staying up all night in my very first chat-room. Strange thing that the only chat-room on the internet that wasn't all about sex was on a sex site. No, we talked about important things, like comic books, and regular books, and politics, and philosophy. And in private conversations, you were there to listen to every emotion I went through being recently divorced, and trying to figure out my life. Every bad day, every crappy customer at Starbucks, every comically bad date, two or three good ones, (not kidding at all- in my first four years of being single I tallied 53 bad dates and 3 good ones). Then last years I met the boy with the tattoo of the little green planet and you gave me a heartfelt "Woohoo!" It kind of sucks that you were actually in Southern California until a few months before we met, but whenever I think of you I think of how bizarre it is that one of the truly best friends I've ever had is someone I've never been in the same room with.

It seems in every picture I have you are in black and that darn black hat. Not the image one would equate with late night confrontations with cinderblock walls and ER visits, but I wouldn't have you any other way!
