Oh, I've always been curious, what is this?

...it's kind of like Accounting for Football Geeks.

You remember when the only geeks that were out there were playing D&D and discussing whether a phaser was cooler than a lightsaber?

Now we get to be geeks that see eye to eye with jocks.

Essentially, you choose players from various NFL teams and create your own mixed-and-matched team. Each player is awarded points for every game they play, for everything from how many yards they got to how many touchdowns they made and lots of other statistics (although John very wisely avoids the screwier stats).

Each week the Fantasy Football players put their teams in head-to-head "games" to see which team did better, based on the stats supplied by the sports website running the Fantasy game... so basically, the entire point of Fantasy Football is trying to figure out which players have the best chance of playing well in any given week -- but you only have a limited number available to choose from.

It's decidedly pointless, but so much fun for geeks like me.

There's just no way a phaser is cooler than a lightsaber.

Despite the fact that I always liked Star Trek just a smidge more than Star Wars, you're absolutely right. There's no contest. Any idiot with an opposable thumb can fire a phaser. (And, I'm presuming, some idiots without them.)

Totally there!

This is my offical lobby to have a live draft this year. One of the crucial aspects of football is the draft, and relying on randomness to choose your team, can't give the full experience.

Both of my coworkers from last year are in as well, although they're really pushing me to make live draft a reality.

Your lobby is heard.

No.

We went over why.

Maybe next year I'll get crazy-rich and be able to bring everyone together to do it.

And...hold off on inviting your co-workers. It's still my preference to have the league be all people I know. (This means, of course, that when it's two weeks beforehand and we've still got two open spots, they're in.)

If you'll let a girl play again this year, I'm in!

;)
