As much as I was jazzed for the Bears and their stroke of luck (or strokes of luck, I suppose), I have to admit that my heart broke a little bit for the Cardinal's kicker. That poor guy.

I actually feel worse for their quarterback--he's a rookie coming in from some great years as a college player, and his work getting the ball into field goal range (not to mention his work getting all of those early points on the board) was heroic. He managed the clock well, he beat the defense on play after play, and if the kicker had done his job, the Cardinals would have won that game in the end. Instead, it was all for naught.

Although the Bears would still have had about 40 seconds left to try and score, and with the pigs flying and hell freezing as it was, who knows.

Think they would have sent in Griese to attempt that?

Or would they have just given the ball to Urlacher and told him to make it happen? God knows he helped everything else in that 4th quarter.

Well, he can come to LA, and I will comfort him, because he's a hottie. He looked pretty crushed when he walked off the field.

I don't deny that the Cardinal's played a better game. Just looking at the stats alone reveals that fact. The Bears played a shitty game, but got lucky. There has to be something to say about getting lucky in sports, because let's face it, luck really does play a factor sometimes. And, to a certain degree, cunning--the challenge on the Cardinal's touchdown was a smart move, and it paid off. I'm not sure why the Bears have the record they have--if it's talent or sheer luck or a combination of both--but I have to wonder why the Cardinals have a record of 1-5. Leinart may be doing a great job, but his team might be letting him down. So that does suck.

Hrm, now that I think about it, he dated Paris Hilton, so maybe I don't want to comfort him. Diseased!

I'm kinda second-guessing the Bears now, more particularly Rex Grossman. Was that just an intense let-down type of game, or are there questions beginning to surface? Hopefully that was a fluke.

That was the Cardinals figuring something out about him (they stifled him just as bad in the preseason game, so badly that he was getting booed at Soldier Field). What you should be worried about is the fact that every team on their schedule, and all the playoff hopefuls, is working hard this morning trying to figure out what the Cardinals discovered.

If Lovie Smith and Rex Grossman don't figure it out too, and fix it, it won't be a fluke.
