Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] bdar and [livejournal.com profile] 911939 and [livejournal.com profile] loosestrudel:

Set your playlist on shuffle. Write down the opening lyrics of the first thirty songs that come up. Ask your friends to guess the name of the songs (artist optional); bold and reveal the ones that are answered correctly.

(For obvious reasons, instrumental pieces and songs in a foreign language have been omitted from this game. I will not include musical nonsense words such as "la" or "doot" in the opening lines, nor spoken words, nor sample loops. Artists may repeat. I also cheated and skipped things that I thought were way too obscure--unless someone could have identified "She Watch Channel Zero?!" by a-Politiq.)

  1. I'd rather fuck who I want than kill who I am told to!
  2. Leave me alone. I'm in control. I'm in control.

  14. I've been out walking. I don't do too much talking these days. Nico, "These Days".

8. You say you want diamonds and a ring of gold.

U2, "All I Want Is You."

10. All hail the new king in town!

Prince, goddammit, it was from Batman, but I don't know the title. I'll guess: "New King in Town." Why not.

It's "Party Man."

If it weren't for the caveat that I wouldn't do spoken word, I'd have loved to see the line "Gentlemen! Let's broaden our minds! Lllllawrence?" appear in this meme.

28. Hm. I'd guess "Run On," by Moby, but these aren't the first sung words...but considering the whole song is made of samples...I don't know.
29. XTC, "Frivolous Tonight" (although I believe the lyrics are "Let us talk about some trivial things we like"

Never mind. You got the words in there; I just couldn't cipher your punctuation and rearrangement of the phrases.

You're wrong. You're wrong wrong wrong. And not even hard currency of recent manufacture could get me to give you a hint. Nyeah nyeah nyeah nyeah nyeah nyeah.

14. "These Days" from the soundtrack to The Royal Tennenbaums. I'd find the name of the artist, but I'd have to cheat and check my iPod.

I so would have gotten more work done if I had stayed home.

Yeah, not a whole lot is getting done here today, either--it's a day off for our customer but not for us, so that means no new orders or e-mails or nothin'.

Plus, I brought a cheesecake.

I mean, come on, these are softballs:

9. Black Sabbath, "War Pigs"
30. Rolling Stones, "Mother's Little Helper"

The rest...I got nothing. Should I?

Technically, mine was the Faith No More version, but whatev.

The rest...I got nothing. Should I?

I'd expect you, specifically, to get 7 and 17. 13 and 19 are major songs by extremely major artists of the last 20 years. 20's from a record I know that you have. And if you, specifically, aren't already a fan of #22--either the song or the artist--I'm surprised, and you're missing out.

Back to work, then! I'll see what I can do about those...

19 sounds really familiar...can't place it...
