Who's got a New Year's resolution?

I'm thinking about giving up swearing. Completely. Cutting 'em all out, even minor things like "hell" and "damn" and "crap", leaving my language as daisy-fresh as if my mother were constantly around.

Unfortunately, my initial thought for what to use to close the hole this would leave in my vocabulary has been met with some skepticism and concern.

Eh, it'll probably never fuckin' work anyway...

I tend to spread mine out over the course of the year. Seems easier to stick with them. Even though I don't ever really think of them as resolutions.

Also, with a true resolution, it becomes sort of a vow...and for that kind of commitment to occur, I've gotta bein a shitty place that I want to get out of so badly that I'm willing to make an absolute decision to remove myself from the situation.

I'm babbling.

It's early. There are workers in my bathroom, caulking my new shower door and regrouting the tile. And all I want to do is pee, then go back to bed.

But I can't.

So here I am.

I couldn't not swear. Even though I know it supposedly makes people seem unintelligent, it's an integral part of my communication process. Maybe that means I'm dumb.

See! See, this is why I am not meant to be awake so early, I think about weird things.

I think your idea for a resolution is a nice one, but I suspect you may be driven nuts by trying to come up with euphemisms and whatnot to fill in the holes, so you may end up stumped mid-rant. Depends on how much you actually swear.

You could pull an FX move and allow everything but "fuck"...

Because I'm consistently fond of "bloody" and "bollocks," and I always loved watching the characters in Firefly swearing in Chinese.

Sadly, the creator stopped production over a year and a half ago, but the entire archive is there for perusal. (And, of course, that's where my icon for both this entry and this comment come from. I even have it as a t-shirt.)
