Oy oy oy.

I'm supposed to be at work at 8AM.

This morning, as I so often do, I ventured into the basement to get a fresh shirt out of the dryer.

When I get to the bottom of the stairs, I notice that the floor is...glistening...in a most unwholesome way, so I run back upstairs, put on my shoes and discover that...

Yep, the basement flooded. Current theory is that the outlet for the sump pump was frozen solid, so the water backed up. It wasn't really bad--less than an inch in most places--but something still had to be done.

So I just spent the last hour-forty-five wrestling with a balky wet/dry vac trying to get the situation somewhat rectified. I reached the point of diminishing returns, so now I'm headed to work.

I don't think we're going to lose anything too dear--most of what was in the basement was either safely ensconced in plastic tubs or just not terribly valuable in the first place--but I think there are some old school pictures that will be on their way out (which I can't say I'll miss, fifth grade having been a particularly hard time for everyone involved).

Oy oy oy.

So, how you doin'?

Yeah, our basement might be flooding too. However, as we are miles and miles away, and almost two miles above our house at the moment, I suppose there's not much point in worrying!
