Theoretically, this will be short, given the hour.

Of all the emotions art can invoke, I think (for me) the most powerful is delight. I mean, I'm usually a pretty sullen and angry guy. So when something can induce pure, open-mouthed grin, it's special.

I was delighted earlier this evening.

I saw "Monsters, Inc." tonight, directed by Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich. It was delightful. There were so many terrific ideas thrown out and explored, shown in such eye-popping, astounding manners that it just warmed me to my core. This is ideal children's entertainment-not condescending, and with dozens of in-jokes for grownups-but with so much wonder as to invoke…well, delight.

I also saw the first teaser trailer for "Star Wars: Episode II-Attack Of The Clones". For those of you who know me well enough to know how I react to new "SW" stuff, well…it happened again. The trailer delighted me as much as, perhaps even moreso than "Monsters, Inc." It left me with a feeling of, "My son, your faith has been redeemed".

Today's Link Of The Day is Chessvariants.com. It features, you guessed it, variants on chess in wild and wonderful configurations. See for yourself: http://www.chessvariants.com/
