Three months, now. As at the one- and two-month marks, I ask: has your worldview changed? Additionally, I ask-and this will be the question I'll ask on these kinds of anniversaries from here on out (though don't expect it for a good, long, while)-how has your world changed?
Got lots of completes today, on both projects. My luck was running well, I suppose.
Nearly ran out of gas today. Didn't have time to stop on the way to work, and then, on the way home, I was so concerned about running out that I traveled the seven or so miles from my office to the discount gas station near my home without the heat on. Luckily it was only 38 (3C) and not, say, 8 (-13C).
(Yes, I do have enough non-American readers to make putting up the converted temperatures worthwhile. Besides, I like metric for the most part.)
Dammit, is Jason Giambi a Yankee yet?
Today's Link Of The Day is HSX, which I'm surprised I never used in here before. The Hollywood Stock Exchange allows you to trade "shares" of upcoming moves, with the prices based on how much money the films make in their first four weekends of release. Everyone starts off with $2 million in "Hollywood dollars" to invest as they see fit. Chose wisely, and see your investments grow. Choose poorly, and you will die. Wait, that's overstating things a bit. But to give you an impression: I'd been an HSX member for a couple of years, and I'd accumulated about H$1 million over the 2 that I'd started with. All my previous stocks had cashed out, so I had money burning a hole in my pocket. It was at this point that I heard the rumor that Steven Spielberg might direct "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". I check: it was trading at the time for less than $50 a share. So I poured every cent that I had into it-just short of 50,000 shares. Fast-forward to yesterday. "HP" cashes out to the tune of H$239.66 a share. I end up with over H$11 million in the bank. And life, for a brief time, is good. For anyone who plans on joining because of this, my username is Sigma42. Explore, and happy trading. http://www.hsx.com

HSX
I've lost money on every celebrity I selected... but I'm expecting some of that to pick up when Matrix 2 comes out. I've made money on my movies -- and I only "own" stock in two. Matrix 2, and Harry Potter 2. Heh. Potter alone has made me a nice chunk o' change, just riding on the first one's coattails.
Niiiiice.

Giambi the Genie
Date: 2001-12-12 07:39 am (UTC)We're publishing Glenn Dickey's history of the Oakland A's next fall, and we have a phenomenal cover photo featuring Jason that we'd have to change (meaning, I'd have to find a new photo, and I've tried but there aren't really any photos as good as this one available) if he becomes a Yank.
I no longer care about my HSX account, although I'm curious how much money I've lost on Penelope Cruz.
