I get high off good art.

This isn't really a huge revelation, I suppose-I mean, really, who doesn't?-but it hit me tonight while I was sitting in my car during lunch. I was listening to a CD I've listened to a bunch of times previously, Sleater-Kinney's "All Hands On The Bad One", when I realized just how much it had elevated my mood and even enervated me, physically-I got out of the car to head back to the office with an added spring-hell, an outright dance-in my step, much like I'd experienced after seeing "Gosford Park".

This is not to say that it's an automatic reaction-my favorite films of each of the past five years have all been ones that left me slack-jawed and drained, not ebullient and energetic-but even then, the reaction is as much physical as it is mental/emotional. And good music, good literature, they do the same thing.

I'm sure I'm not the first to mention this, but the phrase "it's like a high" came to me tonight and this kind of fell into place behind that. Actually, in rereading, I wonder if I don't sound like Russell Hammond in "Almost Famous", attempting to give last words, standing on the roof of some fan's garage.

Not that these are to be my last words.

Not too much at work today. Waiting for my project to wind down.

Today's Link Of The Day is a holdover from the Soviet Union. They liked to give out awards. Lots of awards. All variety of awards, really. Go investigate them for yourself. http://soviet-awards.addr.com/

So, Hannibal...

Have you seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? If so, what did you think of it? A full review would be most welcome, but a simple answer would suffice.

(I saw it for the first time Monday night. I know what I thought, but my background is vastly different from yours in terms of film knowledge and, I believe, knowledge of Chinese theatrical conceits/history.)
